Our Inaugural Hackathon
When: December 2023 and April 2024
Where: The University of Texas at Dallas, 838 Franklyn Jenifer Drive, Richardson, Texas, 75080
With our first ever AYSI-Hacks, we're looking to provide students with a unique opportunity to explore computer science through a project-based approach. AYSI wants to empower students not just with technical skills, but also the mindset of innovating for impact. Our hackathon aims to teach the fundamentals of programming to students, but also push students to apply computer science in solving problems their communities face.
At AYSI-Hacks, students will first receive a "prompt", or very general problem statement (e.g The impacts of COVID-19/Online School on middle/high school classrooms). Their task: to use the next 6 hours and (with a few teammates), design and develop a unique solution to that problem. Students will then have the opportunity to present their solution to a team of highly qualified judges, with the chance of winning cash prizes!

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I attend?
YES! AYSI-Hacks is open to anyone. We aim to provide an educational and fun experience for people for all skill levels and backgrounds.
How will teams work?
Teams will consist of 1-4 people. If you already have a group of people in mind, just list them on our sign-up form!!
I don't have a team. What do I do?
For anyone that does not have a team but wants teammates, AYSI-Hacks will be matching people to teams at the beginning of the event.
How will judging work?
We will have a two key rounds: Preliminary and Finals judging. In both rounds, you can present a 4-5 minute "elevator pitch" about your project, and show the judges your code or your solution in action! You will then have a few minutes of judge Q&A.
I'm new to coding. How complex does my project have to be?
As complex as you want it to be! In our eyes, the value and potential of your idea/solution is more important than its technical complexity.
Will there be food?
YES! We plan to have free lunch for all attendees!
