Two divisions: Junior and Senior
Junior Division (6th - 8th Grade)
Learn programming syntax, logic, and basic Artificial Intelligence to create entry-level applications using MIT App Inventor and block coding for real world uses. MIT App Inventor Block coding gives younger students the advantage of hopping straight into creating high-level applications without fiddling with tedious syntax rules. We teach our students to use these platforms alongside fundamental programming concepts to create interesting yet robust apps.

Senior Division (9th - 12th Grade)
A deep dive into Artificial intelligence and its applications, allowing students with previous programming knowledge to take use of powerful data frameworks for unique & advanced applications. AI and Data Frameworks AYSI teaches the higher level students to use Python and Java alongside open source packages to create truly powerful and impactful applications. AYSI mentors and members have used artificial intelligence in the past to create software that can look through walls, create better hearing aids, and diagnose mental disorders.

Curriculum and Course Specifics
Lectures
Lectures will be conducted 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) on Zoom over the course of a 4 week timeline. Due to a greater number of lectures, timing for the Senior Division may vary (see Course Calendar below). The lectures will be from 3 PM to 5 PM (CT), but length may vary depending on the material being taught. After each lesson is finished, there will be time for the students to ask the instructors questions about the lecture.
Homework
After every lecture, students will be assigned take-home projects for them to work on during the time between lessons. Usually, these projects are directly related to the lesson, and will directly enrich and enhance a student's learning if completed diligently. Although homework and home projects may seem like extra work, these projects have been specifically designed to be enjoyable and engaging for the students. Additionally, programming is fun and should never seem like a burden or a hassle!
Office Hours
Although there are no mandatory classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, these days will be available for office hours. If any student has a question about the lesson, the assignment, or any part of the process, AYSI-SCI instructors will be ready on the AYSI-SCI Slack Server to answer questions.
